General eligibility criteria include:
- Your business must be located in a rural community of Alberta
- You must be involved in the day-to-day operations of the business
- You must be of legal age and a resident of Canada
- You must contact a bank first. If you are unable to secure appropriate financing under reasonable terms elsewhere, contact us.
Every application is assessed differently using the 5Cs of credit which are:
- Character: This is usually based on your credit history and whether or not you have good credit history.
- Capacity: Your debt-to-income ratio and whether or not we can see if you’ll be able to pay back the loan easily.
- Capital: How much money you have.
- Collateral: What kind of assets you have to act as security for the loan.
- Conditions: What the loan is for, how much you need to borrow and the interest rates at the time of the loan.
Community Futures Lethbridge loans and services are available for businesses located in our region. Your business must be located outside of the metropolitan areas of Calgary and Edmonton (including St Albert and other communities within the Edmonton Capital Region).
Yes, the SMARTstart program for start-up or young businesses is specific training for SMEs. There is also succession plan training for all types of businesses.
