Training & Workshops
Southern Alberta Business Succession Project
In partnership with Community Futures Alberta Southwest, Community Futures Centre West, Community Futures Central Alberta, Community Futures Crowsnest Pass, Community Futures East Parkland, Community Futures Highwood, and Community Futures Wild Rose, we bring you the Southern Alberta Business Succession Project.
Through this training, business owners, including farm owners located in these Community Futures Regions will have free access to a series of workshops and webinar series to help them prepare for the day they transition their business.
This program includes:
- Communication and Conflict Management
- Exit Planning Masterclass
- Establishing a Family Council and Family Constitution
- Establishing an Advisory Board
- Nonprofit Succession Planning
- Selling Your Business Masterclass
- Establishing an Ownership Council and Policies
- Business Transition and Success

Entrepreneurs With Disabilities Program
The Entrepreneurs with Disabilities program (EDP) was created to provide enhanced small business development support to people with disabilities in rural Alberta. Self-employment can be a great way for persons with a disability or an ongoing medical condition to get back into the workforce.
This specialized program includes:
- Business training
- Assistance with drawing up a business plan
- Affordable, flexible business loans to establish a new business, purchase an existing business, or expand or upgrade an existing business
To be eligible for the Entrepreneurs with Disabilities Program, you must:
- Have a self-declared disability or ongoing medical condition
- Live in rural Alberta
- Have a viable business idea
- Be able to contribute in some way to your business

Chinook Entrepreneur Challenge
The Chinook Entrepreneur Challenge (temporarily on hiatus) is an annual business plan writing competition designed and targeted toward new or existing business (individuals or teams) who have a sustainable and high-growth business idea. Through the program you will gain business skills, write your business plan, get feedback on your ideas from regional professionals, network with key people including other entrepreneurs like yourself and have a chance at winning cash and prizes!

SMARTstart Lethbridge Region
Starting and running a small business can be tough. Studies show that only 35% of new businesses survive in the first five years.
SMARTstart’s purpose is to provide real-world business skills, access to tailor-made guidance and create a support network to increase the chance of new businesses surviving those first crucial years.
Mentorship, online learning, in-person seminars and a community of like-minded entrepreneurs will help with ensuring your businesses success.
Building Business Downtown
Building Business Downtown is a Dragons Den-style pitch competition for $12,000, free enrollment in SMARTStart and other great prizes. Intake for this program in 2022 is not yet available - get in touch with Community Futures Lethbridge Region if you have any questions.
Local Lethbridge entrepreneurs who are looking to build their business in downtown Lethbridge will pitch their business plans to the Downtown Dragons who are landlords in downtown Lethbridge.
Entrepreneurs will be looking to make deals on leases in downtown spaces.
The top business plans will be looking to compete to win $12,000 towards rent for an entire year + other great prizes! The top business plans will all receive free enrollment in SMARTStart, an entrepreneur training development program (Thanks to Community Futures and the Regional Innovation Network of Southern Alberta (RINSA).
